BORN TO SING

Miguel loved singing from young but no one in his family knew of his hidden talent until he became champion in 2010 at a singing competition organised by Qifa Primary School, where he was a student, in Singapore. A family friend posted a YouTube video of his win singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical ‘Les Miserables’ on Facebook, which instantly became viral and Miguel started getting noticed.

In 2011, Miguel participated in the cross-continental talent search 'Born To Sing' by award-winning music producer and songwriter David Foster. After catching David Foster’s eye with his video entry, Miguel competed as one of the finalists and emerged the winner of ‘Born To Sing Asia’. Following his victory, Miguel made even bigger news when he was selected by David Foster to perform at the ‘David Foster & Friends’ concert in Singapore.

JUST LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON

Miguel launched his first Extended Play (EP) “What Is Christmas To You” in 2012, at Livewire, Marina Bay Sands. The debut album with four tracks featured covers of Jackson 5’s “Give Love On Christmas Day”, David Meece’s “We Are The Reason”, “O Holy Night” and an original song “What Is Christmas To You?” written by Singaporean composer Karen Lim.
After Jackie, from the Jackson 5, listened to “Give Love On Christmas Day”, he told Miguel, “You sounded just like Michael. I was waiting for you to hit that key that Michael did and you nailed it! You have a great future and you can really sing.”

John Robinson, acclaimed as ‘The Most Recorded Drummer in History’ told Miguel, “You reminded me of Michael Jackson”. John laid the drums for Miguel’s EP.

TALENT AMPLIFIED

2014 marks a significant milestone for Miguel as he was signed with BMBX Entertainment to pursue a professional singing career. BMBX is a US based content and artiste development and brand marketing company, featuring the curatorial talent of Grammy award-winning producer Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas.

Miguel was first introduced to Apl.de.ap in 2012 at a private event in Singapore. They reconnected in May 2014 and Miguel was invited to perform at the ‘Rebuild! Philippines: A Benefit Concert’ held at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, USA.

Miguel joined international artistes from various music genres and sang an inspiring cover of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” as well as “Hope Of One Voice”, an original song with lyrics written by respected Singaporean entrepreneur, Ms Elim Chew of 77th Street and music by Ms Cat Ong.
“A major surprise talent of the night was without a doubt Miguel Antonio, a thirteen-year-old kid from Singapore. I’m generally a little wary of precocious performers, but Miguel proved his skills with a startlingly mature and heartfelt rendition of Billy Joel’s Piano Man. He had the easy stage demeanor and voice of a much more experienced musician.” ~danielmagazine.com

HARD WORK JUSTIFIED

While being signed with BMBX, Miguel’s first single “Every Day” was released in September 2014, and won him new fans from around the region. In November 2014, a special single for the season “The Christmas Song” was released.

In March 2015, during his one-week school break, Miguel took the opportunity to tour Manila, the Philippines in promotion of “Every Day”. During the media conference, and in the major radio shows and TV appearances that followed, Miguel gave a sneak preview of his second single “Breathe You In”, which immediately generated a buzz on social media.

In this whirlwind of a week, Miguel also managed to shoot the music video of “Breathe You In” and record his third single “Satellite”, written by the song-writing team of One Direction.

I DREAMED A DREAM

From that young boy belting out “I Dreamed A Dream” in a school auditorium, to a regional recording artiste aspiring for the international arena, Miguel has come far in just a few short years.
His dream is to become a prolific singing artiste, an inspiration that is very much influenced by his all-time favourite legendary icon – Michael Jackson. He remains an ardent fan of Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton and Steve Perry.
Miguel enjoys diverse music genres across classical, rock, opera and also croons effortlessly in different languages – Mandarin  and Tagalog, a skill that he combines with the power of good memory.

Miguel currently receives training from the renowned professional voice coach, Amanda Colliver, who is also the voice coach for celebrities such as Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.

Miguel plays the piano as well as the guitar and has recently started to write his own songs. While managing his time between school and a budding music career, he enjoys a game of basketball, skating and loves to go fishing with his dad. As he begins a new chapter of his life as a professional singing artiste, Miguel looks forward to bringing his passion to new heights on the path of an already amazing musical journey.
